Biography
Julie Brixey-Williams (b. 1961, Essex), graduated Kingston University BA Fine Art (2000) and MA Art & Space (2001), and completed her PhD at the University of Reading, exploring material relationality with place, using systems operating in R.D Laing’s Archway communities. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who has been the recipient of several residencies including a Leverhulme-funded residency at the Association of Anaesthetists of GB & Ireland (London, 2004); The Observatory (Lymington, 2016); Cove Park Winter Programme (Argyll, 2018); and most recently Cil Rialaig (Ballinskelligs, Ireland, 2022). Other exhibitions include Amplify,New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Wellington, NZ (2023); Custard Splits, SETealing Gallery, London (2023); The Royal Society of Sculptors On The Edge, Espacio Gallery, London (2023); A Patch of Sky, One Paved Court, Richmond (2023); The Royal Society of Sculptors Summer Show (2022; 2020; 2018); The Royal Academy Summer Show, London (2019); Vienna Calling, Galerie Art Pool, Vienna (2018); Prescriptions: Artists' Books, University of Kent (2017); Play, Hin Bus Depot, Penang (2017); Love and Peace, National Art Centre, Tokyo (2017); Disco, Michael West Gallery Newport (2003); Drawing - The Process,Kingston University (2003) touring to Birmingham Art Gallery, Loughborough University, Chapel Gallery, St. Helen’s, Hot Bath Gallery, Bath and Clifford Fisher Gallery, Exeter; and the dance-drawing commission, Arabesque, Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2002). Brixey-Williams works extensively in collaboration as co-founder of collective point and place, and with performer, Libby Worth. Works held in collections include The Yale Center of British Art, Tate Gallery Artists’ Publication archive, The AAGBI, and the University of Kent. She lives and works in London.
